Comedy can be found all around. In this course, you’ll gain tools to discover comedy in your own observations, characters, and premises through weekly writing exercises, discussion, and group workshopping sessions. By creating original content across several forms including sketch, monologues, and essays, students will gain a better sense of their own comedic voice to bring into their writing and performances.

Melissa Harvard is a local improviser with a degree in journalism and experience writing for print and broadcast news. Her comedy training from SAK, The Second City, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, The Groundlings, and more give her a unique take featuring different comedic perspectives. You can catch her in shows around the Central Florida area, including her monthly variety show she co-produces at CityArts called Monday Scaries.
