Free Improv for Anxiety Seminar | Sunday, Jan 20th 2019 | 1:00pm

If you're human, you've most likely experienced anxiety in some form. For many of us however, anxiety goes further than its evolutionary intention to keep us safe, and we find ourselves feeling a range of really cruddy emotions. Life becomes difficult, and so does human connection. Some of us feel an ongoing underlying tension, and others of us experience spikes of fear or panic. The great news is, we don't need to feel hostage to difficult thoughts and emotions. This one-hour seminar explores the life lessons of improvisation and creative flow, and how the stories we tell ourselves can create unnecessary suffering. In the same way a performing improviser learns to navigate through internal judgement, fear and expectation in front of an audience, you can navigate through those same obstacles in your everyday life. This seminar is lead by Chris Dinger who is SAK's Executive Director, an improv teacher and a professional performer. Chris is not a mental health professional. This seminar draws on his personal experience with anxiety, his 20+ years of performance experience, 10+ years experience teaching improvisation, and more recently, developing and leading SAK's Improv for Anxiety program. What you can expect: This will be a fun, lightly interactive seminar with an improv demonstration at the beginning and a talkback at the end. This is not an improv class, so you won't be asked to participate in any way that would make you uncomfortable. What's more... this is free! So come, bring a friend or family member and enjoy!

Improv For Anxiety (Workshop only) | Sunday, Feb 3rd 2019 | 1:00pm

This is the 3.5 hour introductory workshop for the "Improv for Anxiety" program at SAK. If you would like to take the full program, including the workshop, direct your browser to www.sak.com/anxietyclass. If you're interested in taking the workshop only, read on... Improv For Anxiety is a wellness based workshop from SAK to help people who suffer from anxiety learn to live richer, fuller and more meaningful lives. Whether it's social anxiety, stage fright, or general anxiety, improvisation creates an ideal experiential learning environment to practice dealing with your feelings in a totally different way. Through basic improv exercises, participants will learn to use the tools of acceptance, non-judgement, and present moment awareness to address the thoughts and feelings that can get in the way of living fully. This class examines how the stories we tell ourselves often create unnecessary suffering, and explores what we can do to bring healing to this area. Chris Dinger, creator and intructor of this workshop is a professional performer and Executive Director of SAK. Chris is not a therapist, nor is this workshop meant to replace therapy. This workshop is an exploration of the process that helped lift Chris from a life bogged down with persistent anxiety to a life where he can feel a variety of emotions without getting trapped by them (most of the time). Stop fighting with your anxiety and learn a new way to approach the world. Let us help you begin that journey!
